Start of the Year

I am so excited about the wonderful collaboration that is happening as teachers work together and prepare for the 2015 school year!

This year we have three teams and to help establish a sense of team identity we have given the teams names instead of calling them the junior, middle and senior teams. The team names are Harakeke (R1-3), Mataī (R5-7) and Kahikatea (R8-9). Trees are abundant at Harewood School and represent the growing and learning that happens here. Harakeke represents the weaving from pre-school to school and the nurturing links of family; Mataī  changes as it grows from a shrub that is a tangle of branches to a big, strong tree, representing the strong foundation that is built upon to nurture the growth and development. It has many tiny fine leaves representing the knowledge and strategies that develop during these middle years; and Kahikatea, New Zealand's tallest tree, symbolises the role our senior students have as role models.

Have a wonderful 2015 everyone!
